The Old Port of Roscoff is governed by port regulations and operating rules established by the President of the Regional Council of Brittany on March 12, 2025. These regulations apply to all port users, whether they are fishermen, recreational boaters, or visitors. To ensure everyone’s safety and the preservation of our environment, we ask that you respect the rules of conduct and navigation within the port area.
Vehicle traffic and parking
The port is a shared space where maritime activity takes priority.
- Speed is limited to 30 km/h on roads open to general traffic.
- Certain areas are reserved for professional users displaying a “port user” permit: Quai de la Criée, Quai Vieux, Cale de la Bonne Mère and Barge, Pen-Ar-Vil Breakwater.
- Pedestrian traffic within the port area is permitted at the user’s own risk. Exercise caution during handling operations.
Navigation and speed
Navigation within the port must be conducted with caution and courtesy; safety on the water is a priority. The following rules apply to all vessels :
- Speed is limited to 6 knots in the entrance channels, access channels, and outer harbor, and to 3 knots in the basins.
- Propulsion: Engine use is mandatory for all vessels equipped with mechanical propulsion. Motorized navigation is mandatory upon entering the channel.
Sailing: This is only permitted for vessels without engines. - All crews are required to maintain a radio watch on VHF channel 9 within the port and approach channel limits.
Mooring and Parking
- Vessels are berthed at the berths designated by the harbor office.
- The use of fenders is strongly recommended, as the swing radii are intersecting.
- Anchoring is prohibited except in cases of force majeure and must be reported immediately to the harbor office.
- VHF watch: all crews must maintain a continuous radio watch on Channel 9 within the harbor limits.
- All vessels must be kept in good working order, seaworthy, and safe.
- Vessels must be properly identified and maneuverable (name and registration number visible).
Environment and Cleanliness
The Old Port of Roscoff is committed to environmental protection. Every user contributes by respecting the following rules :
- It is forbidden to deposit soil, rubble, or garbage on the quays and quayside. Used oil, containers, and filters from ship oil changes must be deposited in the designated collection containers. Used netting must be deposited in the waste containers provided at the Port of Bloscon.
- Hull maintenance: sandblasting, high-pressure washing, scraping, and painting are carried out exclusively in the designated areas at the Port of Bloscon. Only work that does not generate pollution is permitted on board ships and on the quays.
- All precautions must be taken to avoid contamination when refueling. Any accidental spill must be reported immediately to the port office.
- Protection of eelgrass beds: The eelgrass beds on the foreshore constitute a protected natural habitat at the European level. In accordance with Decree No. 2013-7456 of October 21, 2013, amended by Decree No. 2014-9311 of June 16, 2014, the harvesting of shellfish, echinoderms, and marine worms on foot is strictly prohibited. Users are asked to respect the minimum catch sizes, quotas, and fishing seasons in effect. For more information:
Prohibitions and security
- Fishing, swimming, and scuba diving are strictly prohibited within the port area.
- Lighting fires on the quays, embankments, and port structures is prohibited, as is smoking during refueling operations.
- Pets must be kept on a leash throughout the port area. Cleaning up after pets is mandatory.
